Sharper camera work and steadier reporting on location

Practical courses and coaching from working broadcast professionals, built for reporters, camera operators and newsroom teams who cover real stories under real pressure.

Courses

Five ways to build your field and reporting skills

infomiro teaches practical skills for people who shoot and report the news. Courses cover camera craft, delivery to camera, live coverage, sound and interviews, with recorded feedback and live online sessions led by tutors who have worked in broadcast.

If you are unsure which course fits, describe your current role and the gaps you notice in your work, and we will talk through the scope with you.

The details our courses work on, shot by shot

Each course is built around the situations reporters and operators actually face: a handheld shot on a busy pavement, a street interview, a live hit in poor weather. These scenes show the kind of material we practise on.

  1. Handheld framing on a news story

Handheld framing on a news story

Daniel's camera course starts with posture, grip and movement, so that a handheld shot stays steady and framed when you cannot use a tripod or rehearse the scene.

  2. Delivery to camera on the street

Delivery to camera on the street

Coaching with Helen covers scripting to camera, pacing and breathing, so a piece to camera sounds like you speaking calmly rather than reading aloud.

  3. Live hit from an outside location

Live workshops rehearse the moments that go wrong: a late cue, a lost question, a noisy background. You learn to plan a structure and adapt without losing the viewer.

  4. Boom microphone on an interview

    Boom microphone on an interview

Clean sound decides whether an interview can be used. We practise microphone placement, distance and monitoring, and how to spot problems before the subject leaves.

  5. Exposure and focus checks

    Exposure and focus checks

Exposure and focus are taught as habits you can check in seconds, on a small monitor, in changing light, with a subject who will not wait for you.

  6. Newsroom team session

Team sessions set shared standards for shooting, framing and reporting, so colleagues in the same newsroom work to the same checklist when stories break.

About infomiro

Training led by people who worked in the field

infomiro was founded in 2014 in Colchester as an online hub for reporters and camera operators. We started from a simple observation: most field skills are learned on the job, often under pressure, and rarely get proper feedback.

Our tutors are working broadcast professionals. Helen Marsden spent many years as a regional television reporter, and Daniel Whitcombe worked as a news camera operator before teaching. They coach through recorded feedback and live online sessions.

We keep the teaching practical, honest and accurate. You will be told plainly what works in your footage or delivery and what does not, with specific changes to try on your next assignment.

FAQ

Questions we hear often

Here are short answers to common questions before you get in touch. If yours is not covered, send it through the contact page and we will reply in writing.

Who are the courses for?
They are for reporters, camera operators and newsroom teams who want stronger field skills. Freelancers and staff are both welcome. You do not need a particular qualification, but you should be covering or preparing to cover stories on location.
Do I need professional equipment?
You need a camera you can shoot with and a way to record sound, since the feedback is based on your own footage. Professional kit is not required. If you are unsure whether yours is suitable, ask before you enrol.
How does the feedback work?
Tutors review the footage or pieces to camera you submit and send recorded feedback, pointing to specific moments. Live online sessions then let you ask questions and try changes. The aim is to give you something concrete to apply on your next job.
Can my newsroom train together?
Yes. Our Newsroom Team Training is tailored to teams who want shared standards for field shooting and reporting. We discuss your workflow and the stories you cover, then agree the content and scope in writing before anything is arranged.
How do I book a place?
Nothing is booked on the website itself. You send an enquiry through the contact page, we reply with a written quotation or confirmation, and then issue an invoice. You pay by bank transfer to confirm your place.
What do the courses cost?
Prices depend on the course and on whether it is for an individual or a team. They are listed on the Prices page, with what each includes and what can change the total. Quotations are always confirmed in writing.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancellations and refunds follow our payment and refund policy, which sets out what applies and when. Please read it before you pay. If your circumstances change, write to us as early as you can and we will explain your options.
Will I be guaranteed a job or promotion?
No. We cannot promise outcomes like that. What we offer is honest, practical teaching from experienced tutors, so that your camera work and reporting improve in ways you and your editors can see in your own material.
