FAQ

Questions we hear often

Here are answers to the questions new learners ask most. If yours is not covered, send it through the contact form and we will reply.

Who are the courses designed for?
They are for reporters, camera operators and newsroom teams who want stronger field skills. Some students are freelancers working alone, while others are staff who shoot and report in the same day. You do not need broadcast experience to begin, though you should be comfortable using a camera.
Do I need professional equipment to take part?
No. You can complete the practice tasks on the camera and microphone you already use. Tutors adapt their advice to your kit and explain what is worth upgrading later. A tripod and a pair of headphones are helpful, but not required to begin.
How does the online teaching work?
You record practice tasks and upload them for your tutor to review. They send written or spoken feedback, and you can return to it whenever you like. Live online sessions then let you ask questions and try exercises together.
Can I choose a single course rather than several?
Yes. Each course stands alone, and you can take one or combine several. If you are unsure where to start, tell us about your work and we will suggest a sensible first course.
Do you train whole newsroom teams?
Yes. Newsroom Team Training is arranged around the standards your team wants to share, such as shooting habits, interview setups or on-camera delivery. We discuss your needs first and then confirm the plan in writing.
How do I order a course and pay?
Send an enquiry through the contact page. We reply with a written quotation or confirmation, and then issue an invoice that you pay by bank transfer. Nothing is bought or paid for on the website itself.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Cancellations and refunds follow our payment and refund policy, which sets out what applies and when. If your circumstances change, contact us as early as you can and we will explain your options.
Who will answer my questions before I start?
Priya Nair, our course coordinator, answers most enquiries from new learners. She can explain schedules, what each course involves and how to prepare. You can reach her through the contact form or by phone.

Preparing for your first course session

A little preparation makes the first session more useful. None of it is difficult, and most students already have what they need. Here is what helps tutors get you moving quickly.

Kit and space

Gather the camera, microphone and any tripod you normally use, and check that the batteries are charged and the memory cards are empty. Find a quiet corner where you can record short practice clips without interruption. You do not need a studio. A window for natural light and a plain wall behind you are enough for most early exercises, and your tutor can advise on improving the setup as you go.

Sample footage

If you have a recent piece you recorded, set it aside to share. It can be a news package, a stand-up or an interview, and it does not need to be polished. Tutors use it to understand your current habits and to choose exercises that fit. Seeing real work from your own days in the field makes the advice far more specific than starting from a blank page.

Goals and time

Think about what you most want to change, whether steadier shots, calmer delivery or cleaner sound. Share these goals in your enquiry so the tutor can shape the course around them. Be honest about how much time you can give each week. Short, regular practice usually works better than long sessions squeezed in occasionally, and we plan the schedule around what you can realistically manage.
