How a field skills hub began in Colchester
infomiro was founded in 2014 and has taught online ever since. It grew from the view that field camera work and on-camera reporting are crafts, and that crafts improve fastest with specific feedback from people who have done the job under deadline.

Much of what reporters and camera operators know was picked up on assignments. Someone showed them how to hold a camera or how to speak to the lens, and the rest came from trial and error. That works for some people, but it leaves gaps that only show up on a difficult day.
We set out to fill those gaps with structured teaching. Courses cover framing, exposure, focus and steady handheld shooting, delivery to camera, live coverage, sound and interview technique. Each topic is broken into habits you can practise and check in your own footage.
Teaching is online, which lets learners join from a newsroom, a home studio or between assignments. Feedback is recorded so you can watch it again, and live sessions give you a chance to ask questions, try a change and hear how a tutor would handle the same situation.
Our tutors are Helen Marsden, who spent many years as a regional television reporter, and Daniel Whitcombe, who worked as a news camera operator. Priya Nair coordinates schedules and student support, and answers most enquiries from people thinking of joining.
We work with freelancers, individual staff and whole newsroom teams. We do not promise careers or results. We promise clear, accurate feedback and teaching that is useful the next time you pick up a camera or step in front of one.
What you can expect from each course
Every course is built around your own footage and your own delivery. We keep groups and sessions practical, and we tell you plainly where your work is strong and where it needs attention.

- Live online sessions for questions and practice
- Exercises based on real field situations
- Clear notes on what to change next
- Individual coaching for on-camera delivery
- Team sessions with shared newsroom standards
What we stand for
The people and teams our courses are written for
Our courses suit anyone whose job involves shooting or reporting on location. Learners come with different experience and different goals, so we describe the audiences below by what they need rather than by who they work for.
Reporters
Reporters who want calmer delivery, tighter scripting to camera and more confidence on location, supported by on-camera coaching and live coverage workshops.
Camera operators
Operators looking to refine framing, exposure, focus and handheld stability, and to shoot interviews that cut together cleanly, through the field camera course.
Freelance journalists
Freelancers who shoot, record and report alone and want to work to a consistent standard across all three, with feedback on their own material.
Newsroom teams
Teams that want shared standards for field shooting and reporting, agreed through tailored sessions that reflect how they actually work.
Presenters preparing for live work
Presenters who want to plan, ad-lib and recover when a live broadcast does not go to script, using the live coverage workshops.
Early-career journalists
Newer staff who have been handed a camera or a microphone and want a clear foundation in field skills, rather than learning every lesson on air.
